Disaster Services Topanga CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a volunteer organization comprised of local residents trained in basic medical, safety, and disaster response skills. We operate as an essential community asset, providing preparedness training throughout the year, and immediate localized support during major canyon emergencies.
Community Disaster Training: We help to organize and coordinate training for canyon residents in basic disaster first aid, fire suppression safety, utility control, and light search and rescue operations. We also participate in preparedness drills and other activities throughout the region.
The Canyon Cache Supply Network: We maintain and equip a network of strategic emergency supply caches staged across the complex terrain of Topanga to ensure neighborhoods have access to vital emergency supplies in the event that roads become impasable and the canyon is cutoff.
First Responder Mutual Aid: We stand ready to assist the Los Angeles County Sheriff and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel with traffic control, communication logistics, and community checkpoints during active disasters.
We empower our volunteers to go from passive bystanders to active, educated responders, giving them the tools and the confidence to help their families and neighbors during the critical first hours of a wildfire, landslide, or earthquake.
Topanga CERT is proud to partner with a number of other local groups that share a similar mission.
